Our handmade straw bags are made in Puglia by one of the few women that still practice the art of manual weaving.
Manual weaving is a valuable part of Italian history that is more than 40 years old. Around 1880 the women from Acquarica del Capo started with the art of weaving by hand to make baskets for everyday use. In critical periods these products were a valuable medium of exchange and were traded in exchange for food.
Unfortunately at this time, there are not a lot of people left who dedicate themselves to the art of manual weaving. The sector is in danger of total extinction. That’s why we find it important to give a stage to the woman that puts a lot of time and effort and love into creating the handmade straw bags.
